Honoring An American Icon
Star of the TV Series I Dream of Jeannie, Barbara Eden granted every guest’s wish at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music’s Fanfare Luncheon—an annual event celebrating one alumni who has made significant contributions to both music and the larger community—by regaling the audience with stories of her first recital at the Conservatory, Hollywood stardom, and taming the famous lion on the I Dream of Jeannie set. A San Francisco native and alumna of the SFCM Pre-College program in the 1950s, Eden was even crowned Miss San Francisco in 1951.
Named by People Magazine as “One of America’s 200 Greatest Pop Icons of the 20th Century” and celebrated for her work on I Dream of Jeannie and How to Marry a Millionaire, it is no wonder that Eden was this year’s honoree and presented with the Distinguished Alumni Award.
Held on Friday, February 14 in the Green Room at the Veterans Building of the War Memorial Opera House, this year’s Fanfare— as lively and vibrant as Eden herself—was co-chaired by alumna Ana T.L. Dierkhising, SFCM trustees Lisa Grotts and Mary Poland, and received generous support from Pankow. All proceeds support student scholarships at SFCM.
