Saturday night, September 21, the newly transformed 1939 Presidio Theatre, located on the Main Post of San Francisco’s historic Presidio, threw open its doors to the public for the first time in 24 years for a rollicking, sold-out opening celebration. Six hundred attendees packed the house for dedication speeches plus high-energy performances by Beach Blanket Babylon, Leung's White Crane Dragon and Lion Dance Association, San Francisco Girls Chorus and Te Mano O Te Ra Tahitian dance and music. The event went long into the night with cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and high spirits. The Theatre is the result of a gift from the Margaret E. Haas Fund to restore and expand the facility and return it to the public for a wide variety of uses including live music, theater, dance, film, lectures, and events. Peggy Haas took to the stage and lovingly launched the gorgeous arts center into its future as a debt-free gift to the public. Curtain going up! www.presidiotheatre.org
